Rehabilitation Projects For Earthquake Victims
On the morning of January 26, 2001, the Nation’s 52nd Republic Day, a devastating earthquake occurred in the Kutch district of the state of Gujarat . The earthquake was felt as far away as Delhi in the north, Kolkata in the east and Chennai in the south. Bhuj town and the village Bhachau, 60 km east of Bhuj, were the worst affected and many other areas of Gujarat including its state headquarters Ahmedabad, were badly affected. The earthquake devastated the Bhuj and nearby regions of Gujarat causing extensive loss of life and property. The total loss of life due to the earthquake is 13,805 and 12, 05,198 houses have been damaged (Source: Control Room, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, Gujarat ).

Eartquake affected Kutch,Gujrat (Chandiya)
The Chandiya village is located at about 20 kilometers from Anjar. The population is 1900 and grouped 19 in 459 families. The village has suffered total damage leaving few houses left intact.
  • The village needs the construction of 310 houses and institutional buildings and the infrastructure as the village is being relocated at the adjoining land.
  • The cost of the rehabilitation project is Rs. 4.93 Crores.

Eartquake affected Kutch,Gujrat (Kotay)
The Kotay village is located at 23 kilometers from Bhuj in Gujarat. The population of the village is 2300, which is grouped in 402 families. The village has suffered more than 70% damage and buildings totally destroyed. The village is being opted for 'in site' rehabilitation.
  • On the basis of the detailed survey the village needs the construction of 396 houses and institutional buildings like Panchayat Bhavan, Primary School, Aanganwadi etc and the infrastructure.
  • The total cost of the rehabilitation project is Rs. 6.53 Crores.
After Rehabitation of Earthquake in Kutch,Gujrat
 Madhya Pradesh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board has adopted two villages of Kutchh district for complete rehabilitation and the Madhya Pradesh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board being the top most organizations in housing sector of Madhya Pradesh has been entrusted with this responsibility.These two villages are "Kotay" of Bhuj taluka and "Chandiya" of Anjar taluka of Kutchh district. Here are the brief details of the said villages:
